Originally built for Safeway in 1939, the structure burned down and was rebuilt to the same specification in 1989. It was constructed so that pillars were not necessary to support it. It was the first grocery store in Arvada with refrigerated cases and grocery carts. The townspeople didn't know what to make of it. Safeway had to move to a large store by 1959. The Arvada Hardware was here from 1976 to 1985 before the Surplus store moved in.
